PETITION : Continue"The Gentleman from Lickskillet"!

WHEREAS, in a free society, satire plays a critical role in undermining deception and exposing hypocrisy, and

WHEREAS satire critical of the Powers-That-Be, and coming from a conservative/independent point of view, is rare -- and, when it appears, is usually ignored or treated as heretical, and

WHEREAS the comic strip "The Gentleman from Lickskillet" by Allen & Tuma --

  • Is one of the few sources of satire written from a conservative, independent, grassroots perspective,

  • Provides much-needed criticism of America's political and cultural elite, and

  • Entertains with its humor even as it provokes discussion and debate about the future of America and the world

THEREFORE, WE THE UNDERSIGNED -- we who may be Democrats, Republicans, or independents from any point on the political spectrum -- call upon newspapers, newspaper syndicates, Web sites, and other media to provide venues for the continued publication of "The Gentleman from Lickskillet."
